State of Affairs,

from streets to sheets

Mixed media art, Installation • 2017

Capturing absurdities and abundances through imagery based on streets in India, the installation draws inspiration from information, architecture and shared experiences. A mixed media collage consisting of seven A1 sheets using photography, drawing and painting juxtaposes the promising advertisements with the conditions of neighbouring elements and humans.

Closely observing patterns of language and design in the streets, I am drawing parallels between the viewer’s perceptions with my own by using acquired text and hand drawn images. The streets have always been a social platform, a medium of propagation as they are carriers of words, visuals and ideas. I chose to address and highlight certain issues and crudities that Indian streets offer and have composed imagery to achieve the desired effect of unnoticed humour/ amusement along with a dose of reality.
